Bondage is bad for UT

I am disturbed by the idea of a group of people that promote sex that involves "pain, binding, dominance and submission," as described in the Feb. 9 article, "Group looks for approval," by Alia Orra.

I cannot think of any real reason to allow this sort of group - the proposed UT Un/Gagged - on campus.

I have seen the argument that everyone has a right to "express themselves." That is not true.

People cannot run around expressing themselves however they wish. If something is unethical, it should not be condoned by the university.

This is not a question of whether or not this group is having its First Amendment rights questioned. It is a question of whether what they are doing is good for UT.

What happens when someone gets harmed because of what they learned from this group? The answer is easy - the university gets slapped with a lawsuit.

How can you safely experience pain? Pain is an indication that something is wrong.

Promoting a "safe" method of sex that is painful is contradictory.

Nothing good can come from this type of group.

Do these people have a right to practice these activities on their own? Sure.

Does the university need to financially support them? Absolutely not.
