New program fees implemented

CAS to collect $450,000 in student fees to balance budget

Newly instituted fees totaling $450,000 will be collected from College of Arts and Sciences students this year. These new fees include a $100 fee for the Pre-med/Pre-dental program, a $50 fee for Communication majors and a $100 fee for students enrolled in a Developmental Math course which includes Elementary Algebra I, II and Intermediate Algebra. Rockets lose 41-2 to Arizona

  The Rockets fell in their home opener Friday night against Arizona 41-2 in front of a crowd of 25,907 in the Glass Bowl.  Toledo managed just 183 yards of total offense while giving up a staggering 518 yards to the Wildcats. UT sophomore quarterback Austin Dantin was 14 of 23 for 103 yards and one interception while junior running back Adonis Thomas rushed for 52 yards on 10 carries. Full story

One matter just about all college students agree upon is that higher costs of college are bad. Tuition already rises almost every semester, and books are more and more expensive each year. Print dies out as a wave of electronic-media sweeps the market

Everyone from the Rocky Mountain News to the New Yorker has made notice of the decline of the newspaper. With the increase of electronic media, some are worried that the time-honored tradition of print media will die out. In the 2008 New Yorker article “Out of Print,” Eric Alterman said, “trends in circulation and advertising –– the rise of the Internet, which has made the daily newspaper look slow and unresponsive; the advent of Craigslist, which is wiping out classified advertising –– have created a palpable sense of doom.
