UT welcomed Rosemary Haggett as its new provost and vice president for academic affairs last Monday. Haggett's first day was July 2, and she is taking office after former Interim Provost Rob Sheehan, who held the position for more than 10 months. Though Haggett's been a little stressed from moving and hasn't been on the job for very long, she said she's adjusting.
John Neff is giving back to his alma mater, again. On June 15, Neff and his wife, Lillian, gave the UT College of Business Administration $4 million. The money will go to the Department of Finance, according to Barb Tartaglia, principle gifts officer for UT.
The UT athletic department, which was under scrutiny earlier this year for a point-shaving scheme, is undergoing changes to help manage things better, according to UT President Lloyd Jacobs. On June 13, Jacobs ordered a revamping of the department due to problems with team travel, suspected unlawful handling of medications and lack of financial control.

UT has a new dean for its College of Arts and Sciences. Yueh-Ting Lee was chosen as the new dean by UT Provost Rosemary Haggett on May 25. Lee said he will spend his first months at UT learning about both the university and the college. "I don't want to impose my own agenda on other faculty and students," he said.

UT joined with Wright State University in creating a new doctorate program for nursing last month. On June 18, the UT Board of Trustees approved a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program that will be jointly offered at the UT College of Nursing at the Wright State University-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health, according to Jeri Milsted, dean of the UT College of Nursing, who created the new program.

Man, it's getting hot in here. It's burning up from all the heat. Whew. No, I'm not at a bar or a club; I'm in the hotshop at the Glass Pavilion across from the Toledo Museum of Art, watching someone make a bowl by glass blowing. Leonard Marty, master instructor at the Toledo Museum of Art's School of Art and Design who has been there since 1988, shuffles through his side of the hotshop going from workbench to furnace to work table, slowly molding molten glass into a beautifully crafted, scalloped, multicolored bowl.
