Two of the Rockets' most successful coaches signed contract extensions to keep them at UT through the 2009 season.
Head Soccer Coach Brad Evans renewed his contract yesterday, while Head Swimming-and-diving Coach Lars Jorgensen extended his contract on Tuesday.
"Brad is a special coach and has done a terrific job turning our women's soccer program into one of the powers of the Mid-American Conference," said UT Athletic Director Mike O'Brien on Utrockets.com. "He has helped guide us to back-to-back MAC titles, his teams are always superior in the classroom and he runs a first class program. Brad and his program deserve all the support we can give them."
In seven seasons at Toledo, Evans has garnered a 62-60-15 record, which includes two MAC Championships and two berths in the NCAA Tournament. Evans boasts a 129-86-17 record in 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
"A lot of people associated with our program have worked very hard in the past few years, from the coaches and players, to the administration, trainers, facility staff - you name it," Evans said. "This is an exciting time for UT soccer and for the UT athletic program in general. Hopefully, we can continue to keep building the program."
Along with their on-field performance, Evans' teams have shown success in the classroom. The team posted an average 3.59 grade point average during the 2006-2007 academic year - which is tied for second among Division I programs. In 2005-2006, the team produced a 3.63 average GPA.
O'Brien announced on Tuesday that Jorgensen's contract was also extended.
"Lars has done a terrific job building our women's swimming-and-diving program into one of the strongest in the MAC," he said. "His teams have improved every year, and they are having an outstanding season so far this year. He was also honored as MAC Coach of the Year last season. We feel it is important to show Lars and his team that we have a long-term commitment to him and the swimming program."
The Rockets swimming-and-diving team, who bid farewell to nine seniors on Saturday, recently defeated Notre Dame University and is 6-0 in the MAC this season.
Jorgensen holds a 27-13-1 duel-meet record and a 17-8-1 record in conference meets.
"I'm excited about the future of our team," Jorgensen said. "We're a fairly young team, with the majority of our swimmers coming back next year. We're going to keep working to make this program better in the conference and also on a national level."
The swimming-and-diving athletes have also put up good numbers in the classroom. Since Jorgensen began coaching, the Rockets have earned an average of at least a 3.27, with a high GPA of 3.41 in the spring 2007 semester.
