The 2008 Student Government presidential tickets saw their first penalties against them Thursday night.

Both tickets did not submit their required lists of poll workers that were due on March 14, resulting in a complaint from the Election Board.

Jon Wang, of the Nelson/Wang presidential ticket, said the infraction was due to the fact that he didn't know how things worked.

"I've asked people, and I don't really have the sheet," he said.

Greg Seifert and Kristina Karbula, of the Seifert/Karbula presidential ticket, had a different reason - the Election Board Manual is wrong.

"We should technically have a breakdown of when you need poll workers in order to fill those slots," Seifert said.

His suggestion to the Election Board was to give both tickets a warning since the manual was incorrect, which he attributed as Student Senate's fault, though he and his running mate are members of the body.

Each ticket received five points from the Election Board and are required to have their poll workers in by 5 p.m. today.

"It is noted that [the Election Board Manual] didn't provide an ideal situation; however, the senate approved the document, therefore we are bound to it," said Krystal Weaver, chairwoman of the Election Board, at the hearing.

The maximum number of points a ticket can receive is 60 before they are disqualified. However, if a ticket accumulated 50 points, they are not allowed to campaign in any way.
