The Rockets' baseball team traveled to Miami University over the weekend for a three-game series to open the Mid-American Conference season, returning with a 2-1 record.

Yesterday, UT defeated the RedHawks 7-4 after falling behind 2-0 in the opening inning.

Miami's Jordan Petraitis hit a homerun which also brought Chris Nadeau home, giving the RedHawks an early lead.

Both teams were scoreless in the second and third innings, but the Rockets tied the game and took the lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Sophomore Aaron Dudley hit a homerun that scored junior Jake Oester to tie the game. Two batters later, freshman Jared Hoying singled to second base to score senior Nate McKeon and sophomore Josh Johnson.

The RedHawks were forced to change pitchers, but senior Jake Swint hit a double to score Hoying and McKeon to give the Rockets a 5-2 lead.

The RedHawks scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they couldn't bring in another run to tie the game.

Miami made another pitching change before UT was up to bat in the top of the ninth, but the Rockets added two runs to seal the win.

On Saturday, the Rockets were able to overcome Friday's struggles to pull out a 6-2 win over the RedHawks.

Miami got on the board in the second inning after Petraitis tripled and Nurre singled to drive Petraitis home.

The RedHawks held the Rockets from scoring until the third inning when Tim Krofcheck scored on a double by Josh Colliver. A fielding error allowed Colliver to score later in the inning, giving the Rockets a 2-1 lead.

UT prevented Miami from scoring in the bottom of the third inning, and the Rockets added to their lead in the top of the fourth.

With runners on second and third, freshman Jared Hoying doubled to score freshman Dan Sherwood and sophomore Josh Johnson.

Miami didn't score again until the bottom of the eighth inning, but UT sealed the win as senior Drew Hoisington scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Jake Oester.
