The debate over the future of the College of Arts and Sciences continued at the July 17 Town Hall meeting, where UT students questioned and protested UT President Lloyd Jacobs' policies and intentions regarding the college. The students, organized by Evan Morrison, a junior majoring in history, and Colleen Eldrige, a junior majoring in English, staged the rally half an hour before the beginning of the Town Hall.

Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Yueh-Ting Lee has resigned three months after faculty voted no confidence in him. He will still work at UT in a different position. The 42-7 vote came in April following uncertainty among faculty members regarding the leadership of the college.

Much to Paul Shedron's disbelief, he was told in early July his apartment complex in South Toledo had burnt down. Shedron, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, received a phone call from his roommate while playing video games at his parents' house in Lorain on July 5 that delivered the devastating news.

A cartoon posted on the Arts and Sciences Council E Forum has been seen by some as racist. The cartoon, posted by a registered user known only as "Lafcadio," was removed from the blog. The cartoon showed Main Campus Provost Rosemary Haggett and President Lloyd Jacobs in a bus and Yueh-Ting Lee, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, at the bottom right corner, wearing what looks to be a traditional Chinese outfit.

A three-year-old project to make UT compliant with state and federal labor laws is nearly complete but is leaving some affected employees unhappy. The study looked at more than 600 members of the Professional Staff Association to determine whether their jobs needed to be reclassified or if salary needed to be adjusted to match the market.

More than 10,000 people flocked to Centennial Mall yesterday, enjoying the summer weather and the exhibition of various artworks for the 16th Annual UT Alumni Association Outdoor Juried Art Fair. The fair was originally more alumni-based, as all artists were either alums or somehow related to alumni, said Ansley Abrams, director of alumni programming and alumni relations.
