The Rockets' football players will no longer have to worry about the sloppy conditions of their field in the rain, thanks to a nearly $1 million project to replace the surface of the Glass Bowl for the 2008 season. The new surface, FieldTurf, is currently used by 21 out of 32 teams in the National Football League and over 50 teams in college football.

Former UT men's basketball star Jerrah Young took the next step toward his dream of playing in the NBA, signing a one-year contract with the UCC Demons of the Irish Super League on Friday. Financial terms of the deal are not available. Young started in all 30 games for the Rockets last season, averaging 10.
Sophomore UT swimmer Jacy Dyer broke five different school records while competing in the 2008 USA Sectional Championships on Friday. Dyer is a distance free swimmer for the Rockets. The most impressive of her records was her time of 16:42.27 in the 1500 meter freestyle.
