Unknown Fact: Jacobs has two sons; one is in Ann Arbor as a general manager of a restaurant and the other is in medical school. He also likes to spend time with his nieces and nephews.
What is great about your position?
"It is so complex; it requires constant attention and awareness. The world is changing everyday, and as the world changes my job changes."
How did you come to the University of Toledo?
"I was the Senior Associate Dean at the University of Michigan for seven years, then they recruited me to be the president of the medical college [of Ohio] and after the merger is how I became president of UT."
What do you want to bring to UT?
"In a few years, I hope for UT to be one of the greatest universities in the world. Diplomas are like stocks, and I would like for the UT stock to constantly go up in value as the years go by."
What is your favorite thing about UT?
"I really like the students. The students are what make the university, and I like talking to them."
What are your favorite hobbies?
"I have a farm west of Dundee, Michigan, and I love working on it. I do so almost every weekend."
What is your favorite food?
"I love a good hamburger and French fries; there is a great place up by my farm that has the best hamburger."
What did you want to be when you were growing up? Why?
"Before the age of 19, I did not really know what I wanted to do in my life. I had no idea. Then at the age of 21 I started college in preparation of medical school and so forth. I was a practicing surgeon for 30 years and I operated practically everyday. Then at the end of my surgical career I became an administrator."
What is one thing that your colleagues do not know about you?
"Well, some of them do not know that I have two kids. Most of them do not know that I really enjoy farming. I actually like hoeing weeds and I like chickens. I think that chickens are the coolest of God's creatures."
