The Fetterman Training Center will be revealed to fans this Saturday before the men’s basketball game against Buffalo. Fetterman includes a 100-yard practice field (second above) and a refurbished version of the Savage Hall Court (above).

On Tuesday afternoon, the University of Toledo Athletic Department unveiled the estimated $9 million Fetterman Training Center to the media, with the official dedication and tour for fans coming this Saturday prior to the men's basketball game against Buffalo. The state-of-the-art training center is named after Hal and Susan Fetterman, who donated $1 million to the project.

"I didn't go to college, but I have a daughter, two sons-in-law and a grandson who are UT graduates, and another grandson who is a senior at UT," Hal Fetterman said. "I like the integrity I see at the University of Toledo. God has been good to me, and I'm happy to be able to give back something to the community."

Constructed by SSOE and contracted by Rudolph/Libbe, the Fetterman Training Center is 90,400 total square feet, which includes a 71,400 square foot indoor practice facility, a 7,470 square foot facility which houses a regulation-sized basketball/volleyball court and a 3,545 square foot golf training area. Fetterman Training Center will be home to several Rockets' teams, including football, soccer, track and field, softball, baseball, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's golf, among others.

The 65-foot high indoor practice facility features a 100-yard practice field with a Field Turf surface surrounded by a six-lane track, and also includes a 90-foot sand sprinting track, jump pit, fixed goal posts at each endzone and a scoreboard. The indoor basketball/volleyball court is a refurbished version of the old Savage Hall court and is located in a building that sits between the indoor practice facility and Savage Arena. The golf practice area is situated on a lower level below the court, complete with driving cages, swing analysis center and an area for chipping and putting. There are also four locker rooms and visiting team locker rooms.

In addition to the new facilities, improvements were also made to the outdoor track, where a press box, 500 permanent bleacher seats and elevating viewing platforms to aid in filming and coaching were all installed.

Fetterman Training Center also has "green" energy aspects, namely the "cool roof" technology and the 42 geothermal wells that are part of a closed-loop water system 300 feet beneath the practice facility. Employing between 50-70 percent less energy than traditional systems, the wells will cool and heat the facility.
