After leading the Toledo women’s volleyball team to wins over Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan last weekend, sophomore setter Kassie Kadera was announced Monday as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week. It is the first time Kadera has earned the honor.
The Rockets (16-10, 7-7 MAC) trailed 2-1 in both matches and rebounded for a 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 19-25, 25-15, 18-16) win over CMU and a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11) victory against EMU.
Kadera had 55 assists, 19 digs and five kills against the Chippewas with a .250 attack percentage. She registered 60 assists, 12 digs, five kills and a .714 attack percentage against Eastern Michigan for a .421 attack percentage on the weekend.
Kadera ranks 33rd nationally with an average of 10.95 assists per set. Oregon’s Nevena Djordjevic leads the nation with 12.16 assists per set.
Kadera has a total of 1128 assists on the season.
Sophomore outside hitter Amber DeWeerdt and freshman Sondra Parys rank nationally in kills per set due in large part to the assists from Kadera. DeWeerdt ranks 147th with 3.37 kills per set and Parys ranks 167th with 3.3 kills per set.
Kadera ranks third on the team with 265 digs in 103 sets. She also has 38 kills and 23 aces.
The Rockets face Ball State on the road at 6 p.m. today and close out the regular season with a 6 p.m. match on Saturday at Buffalo.
