Junior starting pitcher Justin Collop delivers a pitch in a game earlier this season. Collop (4-7, 6.51 ERA) was chosen in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox last week.

A trio of Toledo baseball players will have the chance of one day making an MLB roster. Junior starting pitcher Justin Collop, senior reliever Jeff Cinadr and Rocket signee Mike Hamann each were selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Collop was drafted with the 193rd overall pick in the sixth round by the Chicago White Sox. A native of Wayne, Mich., Collop (4-7, 6.51 ERA) struggled this season, allowing 58 runs (55 earned) on 96 hits in 76 innings of work. However, the White Sox recognized his ability, especially with the strikeout, as he posted a team-high 63 during the 2008-09 season.

Collop finished the season tied for first in the Mid-American Conference in shutouts (1), tied for third in complete games (1), tied for sixth in games started (13), eighth in strikeouts, and tied for eighth in innings pitched.

In MAC play, Collop ranked first in shutouts and games started (9), tied for second in complete games, fourth in innings pitched (56.2) and fifth in strikeouts (49).

Cinadr, who appeared in a school-record 30 games out of the bullpen this season, was the 1,099th overall pick in the 36th round by the Tampa Bay Rays. Cinadr went 2-0 with two saves and a 4.15 ERA, the lowest ERA on the Rockets’ staff. He finished the season giving up 22 runs (18 earned) on 30 hits while punching out 34 in 39 innings. Cinadr finished second in league play in appearances (16) and fourth in the MAC in total appearances. He also was selected as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first-team member with a 3.685 GPA in bioengineering.

Hamann, who recently graduated from Danbury High School and signed a National Letter of Intent last fall to attend UT, was the first high school player chosen by the Cleveland Indians in the first-year draft, selected 725th overall in the 24th round. This season, Hamann went 7-2 with 116 strikeouts and a 0.27 ERA.

This year’s three draftees tie a school record for the most players chosen in the draft, last accomplished by the 2003 class, including Mitch Maier, J.D. Foust and Joe Welsh. The feat was also accomplished in 1976 with Toledo draftees Len Matuszek, Terry Tyson and Herbert Krul.
