Sophomore Jean-Hubert Trahan and junior Jerel Whiting recently qualified for amateur tournaments in Ohio and Virginia, respectively.

Sophomore Jean-Hubert Trahan and junior Jerel Whiting of the UT men’s golf team have began their summer tournament seasons by qualifying for state amateur tournaments.

Trahan recently finished first out of 48 golfers with a two-under par 70 at the Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. He is now scheduled to compete on July 13-17 in the Ohio Amateur at the Moraine Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.

Whiting finished first in zone qualifying with a five-under par 135 at the Danville Golf Club in Danville, Va. He will now play in the Virginia State Amateur on June 23-27 at Cedar Point Country Club in Suffolk, Va.

Trahan was also recently named to the 2008-09 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Championship team with a 3.664 grade-point average in finance.

The Rockets golf team finished third at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships in May. Trahan tied for 13th place overall at six-over par 294 (75-74-75-70). Whiting tied for 19th place with a nine-over par 297 (77-78-69-73).
