An assault outside of Carlson. Speculative tweets. Passing rumors. Last week, University of Toledo’s campus was a case study on the convergence of crime, misinformation and social media. The Independent Collegian sat down with UTPD Chief Jeff Newton to sort through what really happened. 

Q: What happened outside of Carlson Library a couple of weeks ago? There were rumors all the way from jumpings to gang initiations. What really happened?

The UT men’s basketball team hosted the 25th ranked Buffalo Bulls Feb.15. The Rockets narrowly lost the contest 88-82.

The game was played in front of the highest attended crowd since the 2008-2009 season.

It was the second contest of the season between the two clubs. The first contest went to the Bulls, 110-80.

The Rockets shut down MAC rival Bowling Green at home in Savage Arena on Saturday, ending the game ahead by 20. A break-away second quarter and a spirited third quarter helped to bring the Rockets’ regular season record to 13-6 overall.
